PRSA – Meet Our Members

Sarah Siewert

New Professional Section Chair-Elect Sarah Siewert grew up on Facebook and instant messaging. But after graduating from Michigan State University in 2008, PRSA gave her the opportunity to hone her social media skills in a professional environment.

Siewert’s social media savvy, which is now a part of her role as account executive at KemperLesnik, was proactively developed through learning opportunities offered by the Central Michigan Chapter and New Professionals Section.

“PRSA gave me that network … to learn what I didn’t learn in college,” said Siewert, who is currently interested in how mobile and geolocation will impact the industry.

Siewert has brought her dedication to staying up-to-date on industry innovations to her role as the New Professionals Section 2010 professional development chair. She has assisted with building programs such as the International Conference panel, “Myth or Reality?: ‘Agency Experience Preferred,’” and the brown bag teleseminar, “Going Pro: Taking Your Social Media Skills to the Business Setting.”

With regard to getting started as a New Professional, Siewert noted, “I want other new pros to know they can step up and get involved. You don’t have to be ‘special.’ You have to be interested in adding value.”

Siewert met her current boss, PRSA Chicago Chapter President-Elect Amy Littleton, at the 2010 Leadership Rally in New York City, an event connecting PRSA volunteer leaders on the latest strategies and tactics.
